Dead bodies of the fire incident will be handed over after DNA test
For identifying the victims of Benapole Express train fire at Gopi Bagh, DNA profiling samples will be collected from the dead bodies and sent for forensics. On Saturday, January 6th at afternoon, this is what the Deputy Inspector (SI) of Dhaka Railway Police Station Md. Setafur Rahman informed after the autopsy of the four dead bodies, who prepared the report of the dead bodies.
He said that, the bodies are too much burnt that there is no way to recognize them. Now the Forensic Department of Dhaka Medical College has been asked to collect DNA profiling samples from the dead bodies during the post-mortem. Later samples will be collected from claimants through CID. If the samples match, then the body will be handed over to the relatives.
Before writing this report, SI Md. Setafur Rahman also said that the claimants of the four victims of the fire incident have filed written applications. One of them is male and two are female. One came without any application; she was also a woman.
According to mortuary sources, three women and one man died. The bodies have been kept in the mortuary. Meanwhile, missing Elina, Chandrima and Natasha Yasmin have not been found yet.
The 'Benapole Express' train left for Dhaka from Benapole in Jashore on Friday (January 5) around 1:15 in the afternoon. After reaching the capital, the fire service received information about the fire in this train around 9 pm. Seven fire service units were able to bring the fire under control at 10:20 p.m. after about 1 hour of effort. As three compartments of the train were burnt, the burnt bodies of four persons were recovered from the train.
On the other hand, 3 passengers have been reported missing from Rajbari district caused by the fire in the Benapole Express train. It is believed that all 3 missing people died in the fire. They are Elina Yasmin (40) of Lakkhikol village of Rajbari town, Chandrima Chowdhury Soumi (24), daughter of Chittaranjan Pramanik of Raghunathpur village, Khanganj union of Rajbari Sadar upazila, and Abu Talha (24), son of Abdul Haque Mandal of Baraichara village of Mrigi union of Kalukhali upazila of the same district.
Also, eight patients who suffered burns in the train fire were taken to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burns and Plastic Surgery. The Chief Coordinator of the institute Dr. Samant Lal Sen said that everyone has burnt their trachea and no one is still risk-free.
It is to be noted that the government has ordered all private clinics and hospitals in the country to keep health services open for four days from Saturday to Wednesday around the 12th National Assembly elections and be ready to deal with 'any kind of emergency'.
On Friday, a letter in this regard was sent to all the private hospitals and clinics of the country under the signature of the Director of the hospital and clinic branch of the health department.
It is said in the letter that, this decision was taken in a virtual meeting chaired by the Minister of Health and Family Welfare Mr. Zahid Malek on Friday.
